Silk ... Cashmere ...

There are brands and shops around the world that focus only on cashmere or only on silk but Silk & Cashmere is the first and only brand in the world with the vision of combining the two. It has created a concept, a brand name, and an expanding sales chain that presents both of these luxuries to its customers around the world at the same time and place.

China is the homeland of both cashmere and silk. The world's highest quality and finest cashmere fiber is obtained in Inner Mongolia, China and the ancient silk is revitalized there, acquiring new assorted textures and trendy features with modern technology.

Silk & Cashmere is owned by Fabeks Group which has been actively engaged in a diverse mix of local and international markets, Through its comprehensive market knowledge and experience, Fabeks Group has acquired very strong business relationships in China over the past twenty-five years and this, in turn, has allowed it to establish long-term strategic alliances and exclusive agreements with China's most prominent cashmere and silk manufacturers. It is these factors that provided Silk & Cashmere with its broad access to the highest quality cashmere and silk items produced in the integrated facilities of its affiliated partners who employed the most sophisticated equipment during all stages of production.

Thus, the 1992 founding of Silk & Cashmere in Turkey has revived the ancient 'Silk Road' with a nuance; as the 'Silk & Cashmere' road. This two decade journey has garnered over a dozen in "entrepreneurship and brand success", including the "perfect entrepreneurship award" of the United Nations. Pure Silk and Pure Cashmere.

Silk

The discovery of silk from the silkworm species Bombyx Mori occurred around 2700 B.C. According to Chinese historians, the 14-year-old bride of the Emperor Huang Ti discovered the loose end of a silk fiber from a silkworm cocoon. The term "Silk" is derived from her name. In 139 BC, the world's longest trade route, "The Silk Road", was opened, stretching from Eastern China to the Mediterranean Sea and it was named after its most valuable commodity. It is through this route that Silk manufacturing eventually reached Europe and America.

Silkworm is the common name for the silk-producing larvae in several species of moths. When one Asian silkworm egg, weighing only 1/30.000th of an ounce hatches, the emerging caterpillar will produce a beautiful silk thread. For millennia, this thread has been one of the world's most valuable fibers and it is vehemently claimed that silk also keeps one's skin young and healthy. The beautiful and silky skin of Chinese women of all ages is supporting evidence of this view.

Cashmere

What other word could be so pleasant to the ear?

Cashmere is probably is the only material together with silk to have witnessed Ancient Mongolia, the Roman Empire, Victorian England and Napoleon's France. Its timelessness stems from those times where, like now, it has always been in fashion and never out of date. Like silk, the finest cashmere in the world comes from Inner Mongolia, where the high altitude and harsh climate enables the goats there to grow the finest and softest fiber under their coarse hair. This extra thin hair is called cashmere and in springtime, it's combed from each goat manually. As a result, there is very little cashmere produced each year -the annual cashmere crop is only 1/100th of wool and 1/5000th of the cotton crop. It would take 4 to 5 years for a single goat to produce enough cashmere for a regular sweater.

How can you differentiate good quality cashmere?

Your fingertips will tell you quite a lot - they are able to distinguish differences of a single micron. To compare, a human hair is about 50 microns whereas fine Inner Mongolian Cashmere fibers are under 16 microns. The length, texture and diameter of the fibers characterize the quality of cashmere. These quality standards are affected by the climate and the nutrients that the goats consume. Inner Mongolian cashmere is universally accepted as the best cashmere in the world. Silk & Cashmere certifies that AAA Grade Inner Mongolian White Pure Cashmere with a 13-14 micron diameter and 35 mm average length is used in all of its Pure Cashmere and Cashmere Blended products.
